Each year, Chin communities throughout the world celebrate the Chin National Day to recognize and to commemorate the “General Assembly of Chinland” which was held in 1948. This year in Indianapolis, home of nearly 16,000 Chin people, the celebration will be held at Indiana The Chins are a minority population from Chin Land on the north-western portion of Myanmar. For decades the Chins had been widely discriminated and suppressed by the ruling Myanmar military government. During the past 15 years, thousands of the Chins escaped from their own Chinland and Myanmar to enter host countries such as the US as political refugees. It is estimated that over 40,000 Chin people live in the US with nearly 16,000 in Indianapolis.
