Today, the community is fill with joy for having the first police graduate out of Chin Community. The Chin Community leaders attended the Southport Police academy graduation ceremony which was held at Southport Life Center today.
Bawi Za Lian from a former refugee family exiled from Burma is a highschool graduate from Southport High.
There are estimated number of 15000 Chins residing in Southside of Indianapolis. The growing community has been striving hard to intergrate to the new culture and society.
Van Ceu Uk the president of Chin Community of Indiana who attended the Southport police graduation ti honor Bawi Za Lian said “The community needs a person like Bawi Za Lian. We are committed to support and stand with the police force like Bawi Za Lian.”
