Chin Community of Indiana (CCI) is offering Citizenship classes for refugees legally resettled to the US and who are eligible to apply for naturalization. The classes are offered free of charge by utilizing local community volunteers.
CCI offers morning Citizenship classes on Monday and Friday from 10:00am – 12:00pm and an afternoon class on Wednesday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. The classes are held at the Chin Center.
Many people have attended the citizenship classes which have provided the students with knowledge about the United States, its history, its people, and its culture.
In most cases, refugees who resettled to the USA are eligible to apply for naturalization after five years from becoming a permanent resident. Those who apply for naturalization are obligated to be able to communicate in English and know some important US history. They have to apply for naturalization at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and take a test at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Only those who meet the required qualifications can become a naturalized citizen upon the recognition of a judge and taking an oath of allegiance.
