The Chin Community in Indiana is a relatively young community which is continually striving to become fully integrated into their new society. Two main goals of CCI is to help the Chin community integrate into the local social structure and provide civic education by partnering with various resources.
CCI regularly holds community meetings which provide information for the betterment of the community. CCI actively makes connections with more than 20 collective religious (Christian) groups residing in the State of Indiana. Community engagement also includes, but not limited to, civic and cultural integration.
There are meetings and events almost every month at the Chin Center. One community engagement meeting was held by the local police which included a presentation about basic legal awareness covered topics such as what to when the police stop you. CCI is also actively engaged with the community via social media and email groups.
When it comes to disseminating information to the community, CCI ensures the accuracy of the source of information and reliability of the data being presented to the community. Due to language barriers and technical limitations, many people in the Chin community are only able to access crucial information via mouth-to-mouth or through their Church. CCI effectively handles all information seriously in all possible means.
We also strive to minimize some of the community’s misunderstandings of the Chin culture. We focus by seeking the best ways to eliminate some of the cultural norms and rather imitate crucial American standards and values.
